Blue Note Jazz Club opens in Rio

Rio de Janeiro - Despite an ongoing post Olympic2016 economic depression which is just seems to beginning to lift( but still refuses to disappear), the New York-based Blue Note jazz club opened in late August its seventh franchise in this musical city better known for samba and Carnaval.

Observing that the Sao Paulo Blue Note will only open in June, 2018, Luiz Andre Calainho--,a Carioca (born in Switzerland) partner of L217 holding says - "We have chosen Rio first over Sao Paulo because this is the city where the majority of the artists live .This Blue Note will be a home for artists and for new and old talents ,a space for renovation."

An optimist in the old Brazilian tradition,Calainho justifies making investments at a time when Brazil has an estimated 14 million unemployed and numerous businesses closing their doors while corrupt politicians are being rounded up to face jailhouse or penintenciary sentences. He adds : "Brazil will change only if we will continue to dream >it all depends on us and not the politicians."

An investment of over one million BPS has been made in a club/restaurant which seats 350 ,in comparison to the 200 in Nerw York, and has a panoramic view of one of Rio's loveliest sights:its Lagoon, where rowing teams raced during the Rio2016 Olympics. .
Already confirmed from abroad are Chick Correa ,Chris Botti,Brazil's icon Hermeto Paschoal, Joao Donato,Teresa Salgueiro (Madredeus) as well as top Brazilian musicians residing either in Brazil or abroad like Sergio Mendes.

During the city's greatest show on earth,Carnaval in March, the Carioca Blue is expected to serve an alternative listening booth for those seeking other sounds than the samba .

Ditto for the Rock in Rio festival in mid-September for fans tired of Rock and as a musical jam session meeting place for varied talents.

Asked about the local notoriety of not keeping quiet at nightspots when good music is playing, the President of the New York 's original Blue Note(which opened in 1981,Steven Bensusan says "we had the same problem in other parts of the world like Milan but when excellent music is playing the audience keeps quiet.." Agreeing that "legends are legends" in reference to past jazz greats like Coltrane,Miles Davis,Dizzy Gillespie,Charlie Parker and company,Bensusan believes that "there are great talents like Josh Redman for example creating new music and new compositions and concurs with his Brazilian partners that the land of Villa Lobos,,Tom Jobim ,Caetano Veloso,Chico Buarque ,Gilberto Gil and Ary Barroso, etc is very fertile for music making.

Calainho has the last word on Brazil's newest musical home: "it is important for us to show the world that we are not only bring international attractions. We wish to feature here at Rio's Blue Note Brazilian jazz and Brazilian music which is related to jazz. We hope that the public will be a mixture of locals and foreigners. The latter come to Brazil not to hear international artists biut Brazilians/" ". .
